Welcome to Loomatiques

All workshops and courses are designed with experiential learning as the main driving factor. As a group we will work towards achieving “flow state”. “Flow state” describes a mental state in which a person is completely focused on a single task or activity. Flow is something you’ easily get to experience at the loom, that liminal place where you are so completely absorbed in a project or activity that you lose track of time and forget about your thoughts and life’s demands. There ceases to be a distinction between your body, the loom, and the fibers as you participate with the work. It is an altered state that, not surprisingly, has many of the benchmarks of traditional meditation with regard to brain activity, but many who have struggled to find open awareness and quiet during traditional meditation alone have found that they are able to access this space through flow.

Weaving as a process involves making plenty of mistakes and being able to constantly re-adjust in order to face different challenges. In this way weaving has a tactile and immediate quality to its process which promotes methodical thinking and mindfulness.

All the processes from fleece preparation - washing, dyeing, spinning into yarn - to dressing and warping the loom - then knotting, weaving patterns from different times and cultures are covered.

If the woodworking and loom building process is of interest - this can be incorporated into sessions.

Paris will provide all the resources, tools and technical support needed for clients to be able to create and finish a piece of their own fibre art.

Using a fusion of historic, contemporary and cultural weaving techniques, clients can learn the history as well as mythology and technical skill needed in order to connect with this ancient and fundamental craft.

Crochet, Knitting, Macrame, Embroidery plus Wet and Needle Felting techniques are also offered.
